Two childhood friends, Grant Horton and filmmaker Michael Stevens, return home to Washington D.C. On a self-supported 250-mile paddling and biking expedition, the two seek to reconnect with the landscape of their youth. Through tornadoes, flash floods, and pollution, they learn first-hand the troubling history of their backyard and deepen their resolve to care for the place they love.
