Evansville wetlands showcased for Earth Day

April 17, 2009

Wesselman Nature Society’s Earth Day celebration at Howell Wetlands will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with hourly hikes and shows from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free.

In addition to fun and games, organizers plan to provide people with simple and practical ways to live more green lifestyles. More than 30 stations will be in place offering related games, activities, demonstrations and information.

Activities will include a live raptor show, water bug fishing in the wetlands marsh and children’s crafts. Guided hikes through Howell Wetlands, which is Indiana’s largest urban wetland, also will be available.

The event will take place rain or shine with tents provided if it rains.

Howell Wetlands is at Tekoppel and Broadway avenues. Additional parking and shuttle service will be available at Howell Park on Barker and Broadway avenues.

A map is available at the Wesselman website.
