Temporary closure of the Spring Mill Nature Center

Spring Mill Nature Center temporarily closing for energy conservation

Mitchell, IN: The Nature Center at Spring Mill State Park will be closed during the months of February and March.

Jill Vance, Spring Mill's Interpretive Naturalist, emphasized that program offerings will not be affected. Programs scheduled for the Nature Center will be moved to the Spring Mill Inn.

Spring Mill offers programming every weekend, and occasional weekdays, throughout the winter months. A complete program schedule is available at http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/12066.htm.

The temporary closure is an effort to lower utility costs at the property. Current economic conditions have resulted in decreased revenue for state government. The Department of Natural Resources, like all state agencies, is instituting measures to cut costs.

Until the Nature Center reopens, Spring Mill's Interpretive Naturalist and Volunteer Coordinator will move to temporary offices in the Spring Mill Inn.

People with questions about the temporary closure of the Nature Center should contact the Spring Mill Park Office at 812-849-4129.
