The colors of fall in the Hoosier National Forest

The Hoosier National Forest is beginning to show the brightly beautiful hues of autumn with a 20% change in color. The maples, hickories and ash trees are more than a hint of fall. For the next several weeks we should be enjoying the blossoming of color throughout the forest.

With a weekend of perfect weather – come enjoy the out of doors with a campout and hike. Or take a drive through the forest checking out the local festivals and fall markets.

If you are planning to come to the south end of the Hoosier National Forest, please be aware that we have had major wind damage and many of our trees have broken causing hazardous trail conditions. Before you come it would be a good idea to contact the Tell City Ranger District (812-547-7051) to check on specific trails.

Hunting seasons have begun so if you plan to be in the forest hiking, biking, horseback riding or just enjoying your campsite – be sure to stay safe and aware of your surroundings. Wear bright colored clothing (not white or brown) and make lots of noise to alert those hunters you are around.
